About Pain Management
Pain is one of the biggest health concerns in this country today:
- Pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined.
- Pain is the most common reason Americans access the health care system.
- Chronic pain is the most common cause of long-term disability.
- The cost of chronic pain is $635 billion per year.
The vast majority of pain is due to spine problems which can lead to neck pain, back pain, and radiating symptoms down through the arms and legs. Understanding the anatomy of the spine is critical to understanding how spine problems can lead to pain.
Aside from classic back and neck pain, many patients suffer from various other painful conditions such as reflex sympathetic dystrophy, fibromyalgia, and myofascial pain syndrome. Fortunately, there are many effective options to treat these conditions so that patients can be more comfortable, functional, and able to lead a better quality of life.
Centers for Pain Control is focused on conservative care. Our physicians will utilize a combination of medication management, physical medicine, and various injections to achieve the best results possible without the need for surgery. We understand that injections can be scary for patients, but they often produce the best results. We use x-ray guidance to ensure that the injections are done safely and effectively. Furthermore, we offer IV sedation to ensure that they are done comfortably.
Sometimes surgery is either the best choice or may be the only choice if conservative care fails. In that case, our physicians can coordinate the surgical care needed and help manage your pain as you recover and heal.
